Cody Garbrandt vs. Rob Font brought a slugfest in their fight.
The showdown served as the main event of the UFC Vegas 27 event on Saturday night (May 22, 2021) from Las Vegas, Nevada at the UFC Apex facility.
As seen in the fight, Font rocked him in the middle of the first round, but Garbrandt back peddled and recovered. When Font got tossed away, Garbrandt followed up with a head kick. The second frame saw Garbrandt get a takedown right out of the gate. Font did get back to his feet and made him pay with jabs.
Font found his rhythm in the second round. Fount was also using level changes to get shots in. Garbrandt was getting lit up in the third round and tried to go for a takedown, but it was stuffed. Font started to work the head and body once round four came around. Font wasn’t pressing his shots, but was landing around 50% of his shots. Font got the decision win.
This was an important contest for both guys. Font had won his last 4 out of 5 bouts and on a three-fight winning streak heading into this fight while Garbrandt snapped his three fight losing streak in his previous fight by getting a second round KO win over Raphael Assuncao at the UFC 250 pay-per-view event in June 2020.
