Fury-Wilder 3 In Jeopardy? Top Rank Responds To COVID-19 Report

The July 24 date for Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 may be in jeopardy.

Mike Coppinger of ESPN is reporting that a COVID-19 outbreak in Fury’s camp may force a change in date. As of now, the bout has not officially been postponed.

Top Rank issued a brief statement on the report.

“We continue to monitor the health status of Tyson and his team, and the status of the event has not changed to date.”

Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum revealed to media members whether or not Fury has COVID-19.

“As far as I know, (Fury) doesn’t have (COVID-19).

Fury and Wilder are supposed to collide a third time inside Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada. Fury’s WBC Heavyweight Title is set to be on the line. Initially, “The Gypsy King” and his team planned to move away from Wilder in favor of a title unification showdown with Anthony Joshua.

Wilder was able to put a stop to that plan. “The Bronze Bomber” did so by winning an arbitration, which granted him a trilogy bout with Fury by September. Coppinger is reporting that if Fury vs. Wilder 3 is indeed postponed, it’ll likely be held off until September.

Fury and Wilder first shared the ring back in December 2018. Fury survived two knockdowns and the fight went the distance. The judges saw it as a split draw. There was no doubt in the rematch as Fury floored Wilder twice and stopped him in the seventh round via TKO.

Wilder has hurled a ton of accusations Fury’s way. He claimed “The Gypsy King” loaded his gloves with egg weights.

In the first press conference hyping up the trilogy fight, Wilder didn’t say anything outside of a brief opening statement promising bloodshed.

Fury expressed his belief that Wilder exposed just how mentally weak he is (h/t Bad Left Hook).

“It shows how weak of a mental person he is, and how much the beating in the last fight took from him emotionally in his life. I was worried about Deontay Wilder for quite a while. Obviously, he’s doing his little thing with his earphones on and doesn’t want to answer any questions. That’s up to him, but I’m here to promote a fight.”
