Pichel’s fight with Madsen has been moved to the main card of UFC 273 following Kelvin Gastelum’s injury saw his fight against Dricus du Plessis getting withdrawn from the PPV.
The 39-year-old has gathered some serious momentum in the lightweight division having won his last three fights as well as having won six of his last seven. While Madsen is undefeated and also on a three-fight win streak inside the UFC.
Yet no respect was shown for his opponent by Pichel who opted to trash talk Madsen claiming that he isn’t close to his level of strength in the lead-up to UFC 273. At the media day, he was asked why decided to insult the Dane who had started the back-and-forth by seemingly complimenting the American.
“I don’t know, I just thought it was funny,” said Pichel. “But I don’t know I erased it because then I was like you’re just being an asshole right now, you’re being petty. I don’t know [laughs], I don’t know how to feel I’m just being petty so I just erased it I guess. “
It appears Pichel did in the end feel bad for his harsh words towards his opponent who’s an Olympian medalist.
“But I don’t know, at first, I was like yeah you might be strong, but you’ve never felt the kind of strength I have and everyone that I’ve fought you can talk to them and ask them how strong I am like I didn’t realize how strong I was until people were telling me. Like I would say if this is okay I have that kind of retard strength that really knows no limits and my strength lasts too. So, I don’t know at first I was like okay we’ll see who’s stronger right in the fight and then at the same time I was being a petty little bitch and I said what I said.”
One of the two UFC lightweights will move within touching distance of a place in the division’s rankings with a win. While a potential ‘Fight of the Night’ may be on the cards with a competitive fight advertised between two experienced and entertaining fighters.
