Dan Hardy Questions Jon Jones’ Approach With Gable Steveson

Dan Hardy thinks Gable Steveson should be learning from Daniel Cormier through Jon Jones.

Steveson, who is mentored and coached by Jones, suffered his first UFC loss at UFC 331 on September 19. Sean Sharaf knocked him out in 12 seconds at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Speaking on Submission Radio, Hardy said Jones’ own skill set does not carry over to Steveson.

The majority of skills that Jon Jones had are just not transferable to Gable Steveson.

Instead, Hardy believes Jones can pass on what he learned from facing Cormier, a fellow elite wrestler.

But Jon Jones knows Daniel Cormier better than most opponents. And there are lots of things that Daniel Cormier does and could do that Gable Steveson could pick up on.

So, it’s not even necessarily about Jon Jones teaching him what he did. It’s more [about] teaching him what ‘DC’ was very good at that he had to work around. So, that could be interesting.

Jones beat Cormier twice, though the second win was later overturned to a no contest.

Hardy also wondered how seriously Jones and Steveson take the rest of the heavyweight division.

I’d love to listen to the conversations, but in my head when I’m listening to him, I just imagine them both on a gold throne with like a robe and like a gold laurel just going, ‘Yeah, f— these mortals.'

Jones has faced criticism over the loss, including his decision to take Steveson straight to the back before Sharaf had his hand raised. Jones has since taken responsibility for that call.

Steveson, 26, won his UFC debut against Elisha Ellison at UFC 329 in July.
