Martin Buday has now lost two straight fights since his controversial UFC release, dropping a lopsided unanimous decision to Lazar Todev at OKTAGON 89 in Bratislava, Slovakia, on Saturday night.
All three judges scored the bout 30-27 for Todev, who swept every round in front of Buday’s hometown crowd in what was billed as the biggest win of his career.
Buday was released by the UFC last August despite going 7-1 in his Octagon run, making his removal one of the more debated roster cuts of the year. OKTAGON quickly signed him and handed him a heavyweight title shot at OKTAGON 81 in December, where Will Fleury knocked him out in 100 seconds. Back-to-back losses outside the UFC have only intensified the conversation around his situation.
The main event of OKTAGON 89 saw a champion vs. champion clash between former UFC fighters Igor Severino and Zhalgas Zhumagulov end in a no-contest after a low blow in round two.
