Jake Heffernan has always known that he has the ability to make it to the UFC. Friday night he get his opportunity to show that to UFC President Dana White.
Dana White will be in attendance at LFA 63 in Belton, TX on Friday night. The Co-Main Event on that card is a battle of the unbeaten as prospects Jake Heffernan and Gabriel Silva battle to stay perfect and impress the boss. Heffernan is excited about the opportunity and looks to follow in his coaches foot steps.
“I have always seen myself getting to the UFC. It has never really been a what if for me it’s always just been a when. The fact that he is going to be there and not at a UFC event, so I can show him my skills, is awesome. My head coach Alex Morono, actually the first time he met Dana White was at an LFA event. At the Golden Nugget out there in Louisiana. He was doing the same thing. It’s when he prospected Sage Northcutt. My coach was on the same card. It’s actually an awesome situation to do the same thing he did.”
With the pressures of the boss in the crowd and being an undefeated prospect, Heffernan leans on his family. Family tends to be the back bone of all great fighters and you can hear in Heffernan’s voice just how much his family helps him achieve his goals.
” My wife is a huge part of that. She is a personal trainer. A master trainer in fact. She is certified in MMA conditioning when we first got together. She helps me with my diet. She let’s me know how I need to fine tune my strength and conditioning, when I listen to her. She’s over here laughing at me right now. She fine tunes my diets to a tee. That’s why my weight cuts go so well. The support system that I receive from her is why I am able to keep it going. In fact when I got her pregnant her family was like ‘do not stop fighting because that’s what keeps you happy and that’s what will keep you keeping our daughter happy.’ When you have a support system like that after so many years of grinding and going through different apartments and different roommates and never really knowing what the plan is and then finally you find someone who is ready to 100% commit to not only being a family, but commit themselves to understanding you have a huge opportunity with your skill set.”
Listen to the complete interview and hear Heffernan talk more about how his wife is his rock, how he progressed from amateur to pro, and what it’s been like training under Alex Morono.
