Rizin Fighting Federation CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara is working on hosting an MMA event in Russia. The potential event would feature Ukranian fighter Fedor Emelianenko, who the company views as their biggest draw.
“If possible, we want to organize the tournament Rizin in Russia as soon as possible,” Sakakibara told rsport.ru. “And, perhaps, it will happen in 2016. Yesterday, the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government of Japan, Mr. Hiroshi Hase handed Fedor Emelianenko memorable gifts from the Japanese government. Relations between Russia and Japan in big sports are strengthening, and we would like to be a bridge towards that.”
Rizin’s next event is in April in Nagoya City, Japan, and is also expected to be headlined by Emelianenko. There’s no word on who his opponent will be. Fedor returned to MMA when he defeated Jaideep Singh by first-round TKO on December 31st.
