UFC 105 Couture vs. Vega Preview: Betting Odds
By Darren Black
Randy “The Natural” Couture is 46 years old. You have to give the guy the respect he deserves for twelve years on the professional fighting scene. He had his ups and downs. He had retired twice and came back to fight. Sometimes it is hard to retire. Randy has opened two training centers under the name Xtreme Couture MMA, one in Vegas and one in Toronto. My guess is that fighting is Randy’s true life passion. Randy is very strong on the ground because of his wrestling background and lately the extensive Jiu-Jitsu training, but he is also strong on his feet due to good knowledge of Muay Thai. Speed goes down with age and is replaced by calculation and experience.
Brandon “The Truth” Vera is 32. While being much younger helps, he has some bad injuries under the belt: he tore his elbow ligaments back in 1999 and broke his left hand in Silva fight in 2006. He has similar to Couture’s background in wrestling but on much smaller scale. If you compare the both fighter opponents, Couture’s are much stronger.
Experience vs. Younger Muscles. Couture has better chances if he ends this fight fast. Time is not on his side here due to age. This is going to be pretty even fight where experience will run out of steam fast. Betting line on the fight is pretty much even at online sports betting sites. Odds are leaning slightly towards Couture (-120) vs. Vera (-110) at this online sportsbook. Hard to predict the winner, Couture by submission or Vera by TKO (punches).
