All of the eight welterweight fighters scheduled to compete in Friday’s one-night tournament at BattleGrounds MMA in Tulsa, Oklahoma, reportedly made weight for the show.
The only hang-up at the weigh-ins was former UFC fighter Cody McKenzie’s initial inability to make the required welterweight limit. He initially weighed in at 172.4 pounds, but was given two hours to drop the excess weight. On his second attempt, McKenzie made weight. It is believed that he actually drew a pint of blood to help drop the 1.4 pounds needed to hit the 171-pound limit.
After the weigh-ins, a lottery ball draw was held to determine the first round matches for the tournament, which are as follows:
– Cody McKenzie (15-4) vs. Brock Larson (37-8)
– Joe Ray (11-3) vs. Luigi Fioravanti (24-11)
– Jesse Taylor (27-10) vs. Trey Houston (10-2)
– Roan Carneiro (17-9) vs. Randall Wallace (9-2)
All tournament bouts on the show are scheduled to be three, five-minute rounds. Elbows in the matches will not be permitted until the final round. The winner of the tournament will take home a hefty $50,000 grand prize.
The complete weigh-in results for the show, which will air live on pay-per-view from the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with legendary broadcaster Jim Ross teaming up with former UFC bad-boy Chael Sonnen to call the action, are as follows:
