It appears of all the options available to him, Ben Askren is most eager to fight Darren Till.
Askren hasn’t been shy in letting Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) welterweights know he’s arrived. “Funky” has targeted several top 170-pounders including Colby Covington and Till. The former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight title holder has even expressed interest in a fight with Georges St-Pierre, who hasn’t fought since Nov. 2017.
Ben Askren Doesn’t Mind Hostile Territory
Askren seems to have the attention of Till the most of all welterweights and the feeling looks to be mutual. During a recent appearance on the Rudis Wrestling podcast, Askren went as far as to say he’d go to London to do battle with Till (via MMAFighting.com):
“Obviously, my number one and two would be GSP [Georges St-Pierre] and Khabib [Nurmagomedov] but I know there’s no way in hell I’m getting either one of those two first round. So I’m hoping to get matched up with this Englishman named Darren Till. He just fought for the world title, he’s ranked number two. I had a little Twitter fight with him. I think he’s significantly overrated. So I would like to fight him. I’m willing to go to London to fight him, so we will see what happens with that.”
Askren’s debut hasn’t been set yet and the UFC hasn’t even announced “Funky’s” arrival. Askren has joked about it. One thing is certain, UFC president Dana White does indeed still have Askren blocked on Twitter.
Do you think Ben Askren vs. Darren Till is the match-up to book?
