The current unified lightweight champion in boxing Teofimo Lopez had high praise for Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal and the way he conducts himself.
Despite being knocked out in the second round with a hellacious right-cross from champ Kamaru Usman at UFC 261, it seems Masvidal’s flare and style has garnered the respect of one of the sharpest boxers in the world. With a 16-0 professional boxing record, the young boxing star Lopez will put his record on the line in the pursuit of greatness. Ahead of his upcoming fight on June 19, Teofimo Lopez gave his thoughts on MMA as a sport, and the figures that represent it.
In particular, the boxing lightweight champion indicated that he liked the “swag” and style of Jorge Masvidal. After the long-time street fighter turned pro and picked up many solid wins in the Octagon, Jorge Masvidal has become a household name.
Ahead of his upcoming fight with George Kambosos Jr. the boxing champ gave his preferences when it came to UFC fighters. Speaking to podcast hosts, Lopez made it clear that he had nothing but respect for Masvidal and the way he conducts himself inside and outside of the cage.
“I do like Masvidal. I like him, man, I like his style and his swag, man. The way he walks and the way he’s about his business. I like that, man. It’s a lot of great entertainment,” Lopez said on the “1, 2 with James and Kendrick” podcast.
Teofimo Lopez understands the value a fighter can bring to a fight or promotion. Even though “Gamebred” is coming off back-to-back losses, the UFC superstar is a known draw in the sport. Additionally, the boxing lightweight champion affirmed his passion for women’s MMA as well.
“Of course, Amanda Nunes, Clarissa Shields in boxing. I support them and what they do. Man, there’s so many. All I know is that right now is a great time for the sport, and right now is a great time for sports all around,” Teofimo Lopez said.
With the rising popularity of women’s MMA and boxing, Teofimo Lopez is excited to be an integral part of the combat sports world. Without a doubt, fighters like Claressa Shields are confident that they will one day attain the women’s GOAT status in combat sports, and notions like that keep Lopez constantly reinvigorated about the future of both sports.
