Cris Cyborg Says Amanda Nunes Loss Won’t Hinder UFC Negotiations

Cris Cyborg doesn’t believe that her 51-second knockout loss to Amanda Nunes will impact her contract negotiations with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Cyborg was last seen in action back in December. She defended the women’s featherweight title against 135-pound champion Nunes. Cyborg ended up losing the bout in stunning fashion. It was her first professional mixed martial arts loss since 2005.

Cyborg Feels UFC Negotiations Still Promising

Cyborg has one fight left on her current UFC deal. While the former featherweight queen has expressed concern of possibly being released from the UFC, it appears she’s optimistic about getting a new deal done. She explained why during an interview with MMA Fighting (via MMAMania.com):

“It’s not about being the champion, it’s about who’s watching my fights. People will like to watch my fights if I’m champion or not champion, and for sure my next fight people will want to watch. I’m just going to continue my training and let my manager handle everything.”

Cyborg’s next opponent is unknown at this time. With rumors swirling of Amanda Nunes returning to bantamweight to defend her title against Holly Holm, it may leave the door open for Cyborg vs. Megan Anderson. Cyborg admits it’s slim pickings:

“I don’t have so many options left. I think the only girl at 145 is Megan Anderson.”

Do you think Cris Cyborg will eventually sign a new deal with the UFC?
