Dustin Poirier has responded to Conor McGregor bringing his wife into the trash talk ahead of their trilogy fight.
Poirier vs. McGregor 3 will headline UFC 264 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night (July 10). Poirier lost his first encounter with McGregor back in 2014 via first-round TKO. He ended up scoring the second-round KO in the rematch in January.
Going into their rematch, Poirier and McGregor were cordial. Even a little after the fight, the two exchanged pleasantries. Things fell off the rails when McGregor reneged on donating to Poirier’s Good Fight Foundation. McGregor claimed there was no clear answer when he asked where the $500,000 would be going.
After some words were exchanged, McGregor ended up donating the money to the Boys & Girls Club in Louisiana.
McGregor has continued to stir the pot with Poirier and even went as far as to post an alleged DM request from his wife. During an interview with Michael Bisping for BT Sport, Poirier offered the following response.
“If it was real and my wife was messaging him or something like that, then it’s a good one. But if it’s fabricated…me and my wife were laughing about it yesterday while I was at the grocery store. But there’s no holds barred in the shit-talking.”
This isn’t the first time Poirier has expressed his belief that McGregor is exposing his insecurities. He told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto that he feels the “Notorious” one is insecure.
“How ’bout the first one to get taken down is a dusty b—-? This is mixed martial arts. Put it all together. It reeks of insecurity to me.”
