Edwards Has A Reminder For “Ugly Bastard” Burns, Burns Fires Back

Leon Edwards is poking at Gilbert Burns over a challenge that went unanswered.

Edwards is currently the number three-ranked UFC welterweight. Burns is just ahead of him at number two. The two have yet to share the Octagon but it appears they may be on a collision course.

Recently, the two have stoked the flames with some insults on social media. It all began when Burns tagged Edwards, hinting at wanting to fight him.

Edwards returned fire, suggesting that “Durinho” should fight Vicente Luque next.

“You should fight Luque. You already snake one of your friends from the gym what’s another one to you.”

Burns proceeded to go off on “Rocky.”

“I want to fight you, put up or shut up. Don’t try to duck this smoke … brummie c*nt.”

“Your best win is Nate Diaz who is unranked and the last time he beat a true WW is….NEVER, you are on a 9-fight win streak and nobody gives a sh*t about you. I’ve beat legends in Woodley, Maia, and WB [Stephen Thompson] …come get this smoke…brummie c*nt.”

Edwards fired back, taking a job at Burns’ appearance and reminding him of a challenge he made back in October 2020.

“Remember when I called that ugly bastard out and he was like no I’ll wait 12 months for my title shot.”

Burns would then offer the following responses to Edwards after viewing the above tweet:

“Well I got a title shot, you don’t have one and Dana said you need one more fight. I’m ranked higher than you, fight me. I dare you ‘Handsome bastard’

“Truth of the matter is that I am helping you. If you don’t fight you will get skipped AGAIN. They are going to take you out of the rankings AGAIN Sitting out won’t help and @GamebredFighter isn’t going to fight you because he is still sleeping BRUNMIE CUNT lol”

Time will tell whether or not this matchup gets booked. It appears UFC President Dana White is on board with seeing Edwards in another fight before receiving a title shot. Here’s what he told reporters on Edwards possibly having another fight before a crack at 170-pound gold.

“Probably a good idea. I mean, the guy’s fought one time in the last two years.”

Edwards is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Nate Diaz. Burns is fresh off his own unanimous decision win over Stephen Thompson.
