MMANews.com caught with Brett Rogers over the weekend at Strikeforce and during the interview that can be seen here, Rogers say he is eyeing a shot at the Strikeforce Heavyweight Title, which is held by Alistair Overeem and that he felt Overeem needed to “man up”.

Overeem has been on the shelf the last few months due to a hand injury suffered in a brawl outside a bar that resulted in him getting a bad cut, and while in jail for the incident, the cut became infected, almost causing the Golden Glory stand out to lose his hand.

Bas Boon, Overeem’s manager and head of Golden Glory offered the following in reply to Rogers, “Does Brett Rogers think this help’s him? Alistair trains everyday with punchers like Errol Zimmerman, Gokhan Saki, Karaev, Sergei Kharitonov, and Semmy Schilt. He knocked out one of the best strikers in the world in Badr Hari in the first round under Hari’s rules (K-1). He fought three rounds against three time K-1 World Champion Remy Bojasky and would have won that fight had they counted the second round knock down. What exactly does Brett Rogers have on his record?”

“I understand that Brett is frustrated that Alistair is injured, but that is a brainless comment”. Boon continued. “The hand injury is now resolved and he is getting back to training carefully.”

With Fedor Emelianenko now signed to Strikeforce it also opens up the door to a possible heavyweight title fight between Overeem and Fedor something Boon feels could be a big fight. “His (Alistairs) striking is better and he has wicked take down defense and a good ground game. A fit Alistair Overeem stands a very good chance against Fedor.”

Boon also had praising words for Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker “I admire Scott Coker as a promoter. I know he once worked for K-1 and now works more for himself and he does a brilliant job.”
