Gegard Mousasi Believes Chris Weidman Should Retire

Gegard Mousasi is of the belief that former UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman should retire.

Weidman has seen better days as an active competitor. He has gone 2-6 in his last eight outings. To make matters worse, Weidman suffered a gnarly leg break in his most recent bout against Uriah Hall. He will have to undergo a second surgery as the leg hasn’t been healing properly.

Mousasi, a former opponent of Weidman, spoke to Middle Easy and said he feels the “All-American” should call it a career.

“Weidman should retire, believe me. The guy, he desperately wants to come back, but maybe his time has passed. Not passed, I’m harsh. A hundred percent I believe he can come back, because he is very skilled.

“But when you look at his record, and his injuries — I read he had 29 surgeries in his whole career. 29 surgeries, you’re half robocop… Do you still want to live decently when you’re 60, 70, you know? But that’s not up to me, if I had 30 surgeries I would have retired a long time ago. He’s losing all his fights in a bad way, you know.”

Mousasi and Weidman went one-on-one back in April 2017 under the UFC banner. Mousasi won the fight via second-round TKO. At the time, this was Weidman’s third loss in a row.

Mousasi went on to win the Bellator Middleweight Title after testing free agency. He lost the gold to Rafael Lovato Jr. but regained it after defeating Douglas Lima via unanimous decision.
