“Krazy Horse” On Elite XC Debut, Legal Troubles, & More

MMANews.com's own Luis Cruz spoke with entertaining Lightweight Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett earlier today (January 31, 2007) to discuss his upcoming Elite XC debut against K.J. Noons on February 10th on SHOWTIME, among other subjects. Below is a complete transcript of the interview.

Luis Cruz: This is Luis Cruz here at MMANews.com and I'm joined now by one of the most controversial and entertaining fighters in mixed-martial arts today, he's actually rightfully suited “Krazy Horse”, Charles Bennett. Charles, what's going on man?

Charles Bennett: Nothing much man, just getting ready for this fight man. Getting ready to make people fall in love with the kid.

Luis Cruz: Alright first thanks for taking a couple of minutes to talk with us. How's your training going?

Charles Bennett: Training's going good. It's hard.

Luis Cruz: Who you training with these days?

Charles Bennett: Shawn Canova out in California.

Luis Cruz: Alright, let's talk about your career a little bit. It's kind of been a rollercoaster ride up until this point. What made you join Elite XC just getting a new start to your career here in the U.S.?

Charles Bennett: Yeah.

Luis Cruz: ow you have these antics you like to do before a fight such as stare down the camera man. Why do you do that to calm your nerves a little or just have fun or what?

Charles Bennett: No, it gets the crowd in it. If I'm different from all the other fighters. What I do is just business. I want to be an actor, you know, so I'll act in my fights. But I'm pretty good at fighting, so eventually I'll get paid to act too.

Luis Cruz: Oh you want to be an actor in Hollywood too huh?

Charles Bennett: Yeah.

Luis Cruz: With those antics you do, you obviously like to have a good time before, during and after fights but how important is it for you to actually be a champion one day?

Charles Bennett: How important? Real important, 'cause if I get the belt then I ain't worried about anyone takin' it.

Luis Cruz: Alright. Now you had a lot of legal problems outside of the sport. Is that all done with or are you still dealing with that?

Charles Bennett: Well, you know they just don't let you go killin' somebody and I murdered three people and shit. So I'm trying to get off on that.

Luis Cruz: [laughing] Ok..whatever your real charges are, has that been a distraction at all for you in terms of your fight career?

Charles Bennett: Naw.

Luis Cruz: So you don't have trouble seperating your personal life from your fighting career?

Charles Bennett: Naw, not really. It just makes me stronger.

Luis Cruz: Now let's talk about your opponent K.J. Noons. What do you know about him?

Charles Bennett: Oh, not much. Not much at all. I really don't care to know anything about him, I just know he's coming to fight and I'm gonna knock him out.

Luis Cruz: You know of his reported advanced striking skills right?

Charles Bennett: What's that?

Luis Cruz: He's supposed to be a devastating striker. He's got an 83 percent knockout ratio between Muay Thai, MMA and Boxing combined.

Charles Bennett: Oh that's pretty good.

Luis Cruz: [laughs] It seems his heavy hands aren't worrying you at all?

Charles Bennett: Naw. He needs to worry about my heavy hands.

Luis Cruz: Yeah, most are expecting a stand up war between you two. Let's say you do get caught with a big shot, would you hesitate to take this fight to the ground?

Charles Bennett: Naw. 'Cause I would just hit him back harder.

Luis Cruz: So you have no intentions of going to the ground?

Charles Bennett: Naw. No intentions on the ground. F*ck the ground. I ain't here to make love, I'm here to knock him out, get my money and go home.

Luis Cruz: Alright, the only thing we're going to get is fireworks then. He doesn't go to the ground, you just stated you're not going to the ground. So this is going to be a knockout, drag-em-out kind of fight and I'm expecting fireworks. You guys could have the fight of the night.

Charles Bennett: Yeah, well you know what? It's not we, it's me. F*ck him because I make the fight, you know? F*ck him. He won't have anything but a busted up face.

Luis Cruz: Can you tell us how you really feel?

Charles Bennett: How I feel is that he ain't shit.

[someone talks to Krazy Horse in the background]

Charles Bennett: Hey, how much longer this interview gonna be?

Luis Cruz: Just got one more question for you.

Charles Bennett: Oh, ok. Well, I really don't care about him none. I need to be tough and all this he says, f*ck what they say this is my fight.

Luis Cruz: [laughs] Alright, now let's say you come out with a win here. What do you want to do next? …besides knock somebody else out.

Charles Bennett: Umm, acting. That's what I'm shooting for.

Luis Cruz: Oh this is something you're actually trying to do now, present-day?

Charles Bennett: Yeah, I'm trying to act also. I have a fight coming up in April which is in Japan so I'll be back on that coast trying to make Japan fights good again. So the money is building up. The fame is building up. So everything is building up, it's just the training that's killing.

Luis Cruz: Alright Charles, I know you're busy. Thanks for taking a couple of minutes to talk with us. Is there anything you want to say to your fans or any sponsors you want to mention before we get out of here?

Charles Bennett: I need a girlfriend, I'm single. I need a girlfriend.

Luis Cruz: [laughs] You gotta help your cause with that one [laughs] I can't help you there.

Charles Bennett: That's out to the fans, let 'em know – you know? Any single pretty women, not really the fat one's. Gotta be under 140 pounds.

Luis Cruz: What's wrong with fat women?

Charles Bennett: I'm famous. Can't deal with 'em.

Luis Cruz: Ahh, so fat women can't have famous people?

Charles Bennett: Yeah they can, but not this one. I like the light one's.

Luis Cruz: [laughs] Alright Charles, great talking to you. Go handle your business, I'll see you down there on February 10th.

Charles Bennett: Alright.
