Lutter-Jensen Completes Stellar UFC 74 Card
By Thomas Gerbasi
Middleweight contender Travis Lutter will begin on the road back to a shot at UFC champion Anderson Silva when he battles Octagon debutant Ryan Jensen in a 185-pound matchup on August 25th’s UFC 74 show at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Lutter-Jensen bout completes the nine bout card, which is headlined by the UFC Heavyweight Championship bout between champion Randy Couture and challenger Gabriel Gonzaga, and the welterweight showdown between former UFC champion Georges St-Pierre and Josh Koscheck.
Fort Worth, Texas’ Lutter (12-4) is one of the game’s premier ground fighters, a fact evidenced by his stint on The Ultimate Fighter’s fourth season, which he won by submitting Patrick Cote in the first round last November. Lutter failed to make weight for his subsequent challenge of Silva at UFC 67 in February, but he gave the champion a rough time before losing in the second round, and his performance has given many reason to believe he will be back in contention in no time.
Newcomer Jensen began training under one of the UFC’s first fighters, UFC 3 tournament winner Steve Jennum, and since then, the Nebraskan has worked with the renowned Team Quest en route to an impressive 11-1 MMA record. In his last bout, on May 18th, Jensen submitted UFC vet Curtis Stout in the first round with a triangle choke, but despite his success on the ground (six of his wins have come by chokes), he prefers to keep it standing, making this bout an intriguing style matchup for fight fans.
