McCully Misses Deadline, Herring To Fight Kongo At UFC 82?

The following is an excerpt from an article from TheFightNetwork.com:

Justin McCully once turned down a World Wrestling Entertainment developmental deal to compete for Extreme Championship Wrestling. That decision proved costly when ECW went out of business a few weeks later.

One has to wonder if McCully, now a full-time mixed martial artist, passed on another golden opportunity when he missed the deadline to accept a proposed fight against heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo at UFC 81 “Breaking Point” on Saturday, Feb. 2 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

“It just came at a really bad time,” McCully says. “We hesitated and delayed on our answer, and by the time we got back to [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva, he had already given the fight over to Heath Herring.”

While the Las Vegas-based organization has made no official announcement, it is believed that Kongo and Herring will battle at UFC 82 “Pride of a Champion” on Saturday, March 1 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
