McGregor vs Mayweather “Is a Mismatch” Says Former World Champion Carl Froch

Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather is a prospect which continues to polarize opinion in the sporting world.

Highly decorated ex-unified former world super-middleweight boxing champion Carl Froch has explained why a matchup between combat sports’ two biggest names would likely end in disappointment.

The potential revenue generated should a bout between ‘The Notorious’ and ‘Money’ take place would be astronomical, given Mayweather’s monetary records in former boxing bouts, and McGregor’s peerless PPV numbers in the UFC. As for a spectacle befitting the hype, ‘The Cobra’ feels that the fight would be nothing more than an easy night of work for the 49-0 boxing legend.

While the spectacle, trash-talk and pre-fight hype would potentially garner more interest than any other fight in the history of either sport, Froch recently explained how Mayweather’s elusiveness and ring IQ would prove too much for the Dubliner:

“no disrespect to Conor McGregor, I like him but… McGregor against Mayweather is a mismatch. Let’s be honest. It’s too easy for Mayweather, I don’t even think he’d need to train.

It’s difficult for top fighters, top boxers that are really really top level boxers, world champions, to get near Mayweather and land a shot. So, there’s no way a cage fighter is going to get in there.

I used to spar with Dan ‘the Outlaw’ Hardy and a little bit with [PAUL] Semtex Daley. They’re from Nottingham, they’re cage fighters. If I get in a cage with them it’s game over for me. But they can’t box me. They can’t get near me. It’s different. It’s a totally different sport”.
