MMANews.com Pre-ShoXC Interview w/ Krazy Horse

MMANews.com's own Chris Howie recently caught up with the wild Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett to discuss his main event rematch tonight at the ShoXC show against “Joe Boxer”, among other topics. Below is a complete transcript of the interview conducted on Friday, August 25, 2007.

CHARLES “KRAZY HORSE” BENNETT INTERVIEW

Chris Howie Of MMANews.com: This is Chris Howie with MMANews.com and today I am working with EliteXC Lightweight fighter Charles “Krazy Horse” Bennett. How are you today Krazy?

Krazy Horse: I’m doing pretty good bro.

MMANews.com: How has preparation been for your upcoming fight with “Joe Boxer”?

Krazy Horse: I feel sick about this fight man. Sick.

MMANews.com: Are you looking forward to getting in there with him?

Krazy Horse: Oh for sure. I’m going to shut him up for good this time. He hasn't done anything but fuel the fire since the last fight. Every time he's around me he's got to run up on me and talk shit. [To Joe Boxer] You know who didn't win that last fight Boxer.

MMANews.com: What were your thoughts on the last fight with him? It ended in a draw but at the end of the second round you were down and out. What are you thinking going into this fight?

Krazy Horse: The fight was over. It doesn't matter what happens after the fight. It matters what happens during the fight. The fight was over. I can go to sleep anywhere after the fight. I don’t have to stand up and look all pretty and stuff for everybody because the fight was over. It was a draw so there was no need for me to be celebrating and all that. I didn't fight to the best of my ability that night. He hurt me in the first two minutes of the fight but he should have finished it. I've watched that fight over and over now. I was more aggressive in the stand-up and I was taking him down whenever I wanted to. Seriously.

MMANews.com: You unfortunately ran into some problems right before your last scheduled fight with him. Did you happen to catch the fight that night between him and Edson Berto?

Krazy Horse: Oh yeah I caught his 47 second loss. 47 seconds [laughs]…

MMANews.com: What were your opinions on that?

Krazy Horse: I thought it was funny. He's supposed to be a submission guy but he ended up getting submitted.

MMANews.com: Since seeing that fight have you worked any….

Krazy Horse: No I do not work any ground game. I just work on strength and punches. Straight strong punches. Set you up and stop you from grabbing. Like I said it doesn't matter what “Joe Boxer” thinks or what he proclaims he is going to do to me because he can't. No one can beat me unless I let you beat me. I will not let anyone beat me again. If you beat me it is because you're good and you deserved to beat me. You're not going to win because I let you win anymore, I love this life and it is my life so therefore you will not be winning unless I let you win. Joe Boxer didn’t win the last time because I didn't let him. I let him draw with me and tie with me. Show me another fighter with the confidence I’ve got.

MMANews.com: With a win over Victor Valenzuela where do you see yourself going from there?

Krazy Horse: Not very far I don't think because “Joe Boxer” isn't even a big name. Now if we were talking about me fighting BJ Penn — yeah I see myself going places by knocking out BJ Penn but we're not talking about BJ, we are talking about “Joe Boxer” who is no one. He is someone who is trying to make a name for himself off of “Krazy Horse”. I’m the only reason he is headlining this card. He's not there because of who he's beat or what he's done. He says he was robbed last time but I'm curious as to what will be his excuse this time. What will be his excuse this time when I knock him out? Was he drunk? Did he over train for this fight? What will it be this time?

MMANews.com: Who are some fighters you who like to fight in EXC?

Krazy Horse: I don’t like to call out fighters. I like to let them call me out. I don’t care who I fight. They just have to set them up and I’ll knock them down.

MMANews.com: Has there been any talks of adding a title belt to your weight class in EXC?

Krazy Horse: Umm.. I really don’t know anything about that but I do know when it does come up I’ll be a number one contender.

MMANews.com: You have a record above .500 but a lot of people will say you are the master of the lucky punch. What are your thoughts on those who say that?

Krazy Horse: I don’t even know what a lucky punch is. What’s a lucky punch? Seriously. There is nothing lucky about one of my punches. When they come they are coming and they are coming with a lot of fight you know what I’m saying? If my punch connects you’re going down.

MMANews.com: You are a fighter who in the past has been vocal about letting people know your body is natural. What are your thoughts on fighters testing positive for steroids?

Krazy Horse & Joe Boxer rematch tonight at ShoXC …

Krazy Horse: I can’t really complain about what medical technology that they use for fights. That is one thing I can say about the critics — they’ve said I’ve done everything else but they have never said I’ve done steroids. It doesn’t really matter to me though, take your steroids or do whatever.

MMANews.com: What were your influences for getting into MMA?

Krazy Horse: Jail inspired me. I was in jail one night and I was like “man there’s no bitches in jail”. There were no women in jail so I was just like I’m sick of jail. I can’t be around no chicks or do whatever I want to do so I was reading in the paper one day about this fighting stuff and I thought to myself “I’ve been in a lot of street fights” …and I was pretty good at that so… and I was in jail and I said “fuck this shit” you know? As soon as I get out of jail I go and check it out and I thought “shit I can do this”. I started training with some Heavyweight guys and I was doing really well because I have the strength of a Heavyweight so from that point on I started fighting.

MMANews.com: Have you ever considered adding a ground aspect into your training?

Krazy Horse: You know ya’ll out there think I have no ground game but when I first started out fighting that was my favorite spot to go, take you down and beat you up. When I knocked out Shad Smith that was when I was inspired to start knocking people out, Shad Smith inspired me to do that. Now it’s like because I don’t go to the ground anymore people think I have no ground game. Yeah I can wrestle; I can wrestle better than these college wrestlers or wrestle better than any of these guys who have been doing Jiu-Jitsu for years. The reason I don’t wrestle is because there is no money in wrestling, the money is in knock outs. People want to see people get knocked out. That results going back to the lucky punch; I’m trying to knock you out there …so there is no lucky punch. Look at the KJ Noons fights, I threw two punches before he threw one and when he threw his first my second one knocked him out.

MMANews.com: Yeah it is hard to say that was lucky because you threw the punch and connected and knocked him out.

Krazy Horse: Let me actually correct you, I through the body shot and then knocked him out, 1-2, Roy Jones Jr. style, thank you. [laughs] Body — head.

MMANews.com: Do you train any ground at all, such as defense to keep yourself out of trouble?

Krazy Horse: No, I just over power them. At 155 lbs. I don’t see anyone matching my strength, on steroids or off them.

MMANews.com: Do you ever see yourself fighting in the UFC? Have they ever contacted you?

Krazy Horse: Naw the UFC don’t want my kind of stunts. I’m a convicted felon. I’m the “bad guy” of the sport. They would be taking a chance on me and people don’t like to do that. People that take that chance I think are pretty pleased. The only thing missing from the U-F-C is the K-R-A-Z-Y.

MMANews.com: So you don’t think they will ever be calling your number because of your background and such?

Krazy Horse: They don’t have what I call a show man. I bring it all. We’ll see after tomorrow night. We’ll see who is more popular, the UFC or just Krazy Horse.

MMANews.com: Do you have any fighters you admire in the sport?

Krazy Horse: BJ Penn, but I would like to fight BJ Penn.

MMANews.com: What do you do on your free time when you are not prepping for a fight?

Krazy Horse: I’m usually sitting at home with my kid and my girl. I like to enjoy life.

MMANews.com: I was reading recently that New Era is producing a hat with your image on it. What is the story behind that or is there even a story?

Krazy Horse: I have my own shirts and hats that are out. If you go to KrazyHorse.com you can go and order yourself some.

MMANews.com: Do you have a prediction for your fight with Victor?

Krazy Horse: I’m going to knock him out with that lucky punch [laughs]. Then I’m going to go get drunk and have a good time because that’s what I want to do. I want to go get drunk after knocking Joe Boxer out.

MMANews.com: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans out there?

Krazy Horse: Check me out tomorrow night. The true Krazy Horse fans know what I’m capable of and those doubters…check me out too, I might lose and you’ll all be happy. I’ll lose the alcohol battle for them.

MMANews.com: Do you have anyone you’d like to thank?

Krazy Horse: Yeah I’d like to thank my nigga Jason Moores, my homeboy Jonathan Burkins, the gym that I train at, Team Trauma, and of course team Krazy Horse because I am a one man army with a whole bunch of little soliders. I'd like to thank my girl and my kids and that’s pretty much it. Oh yeah and I can’t forget Terry Tredelcock, the KOTC owner.

MMANews.com: Ok Krazy, well I’d like to thank you for taking the time out to talk with me today and I’d like to wish you luck in your fight with Joe Boxer on Saturday for ShoXC.

Krazy Horse: Yeah one more thing: I’d just like everyone to know that I don’t fight off of luck… I fight off of skill. I appreciate being wished luck in my fight but I don’t need luck because I have skill.

MMANews.com: Alright. Again thanks a lot Krazy.

Krazy Horse: Alright my brotha, I appreciate it, thank you.
