NCAA Champion Makes Pro MMA Debut This Weekend 10/11

NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPION PHIL DAVIS
MAKES HIS PRO MMA DEBUT IN MASSACHUSETTS!

ESPN Magazine calls Davis
“wrestling's latest hot MMA prospect” and an”athletic freak”

Plymouth, Mass.October 6, 2008. – Frederic Belleton's NoBoundary Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Promotion along with LionHeart Fighters today announced that Four-Time All-American Wrestler and 2008 NCAA Champion, Phil Davis, will make his Professional MMA debut at “The Awakening” this Saturday, October 11th, at the Jungleplex in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Davis will take on veteran Brett Chism (8-2) in the Main Event. Chism, fighting out of the Valdosta Martial Arts Center (VMAC) in Valdosta, Georgia, has won his last four fights in a row, three of those four in the first round. Davis was brought in as a late replacement for The Ultimate Fighter veteran Karn Gregorian, who last week pulled out of his fight with Chism due to illness.

Phil Davis became college wrestling royalty when he capped off an incredible career in 2008 by winning the Division 1 National Championship. With the win, Davis became only the fourth 4-time All-American in PennState's rich 100-year wrestling history. Davis went 26-1 his senior year and ended his career with a 116-20 career record, ninth all-time at PennState. After graduation Davis signed with LionHeart Professional Management and Promotions, Inc., to train for a career in MMA.

Davis takes the first-step in establishing his professional career on October 11th when he steps into the cage to face veteran Brett Chism. Chism brings a granite chin and seasoned brawler style that he believes will neutralize Davis' world-class wrestling game. Davis is undefeated as an amateur MMA fighter.

Regarding his step-up in competition Davis says; “After 5 months of training at LionHeart and several amateur fights, I'm really looking forward to competing at the next level, I've significantly improved my standup and ju-jitsu and have transitioned myself from a pure wrestler into a complete MMA fighter.”

No Boundary match maker Matt Peterson says the Davis-Chism fight is national news; “As a four-time All-American Phil Davis, like Josh Koshceck, is an elite level wrestler with the potential to make huge waves in MMA. On the other hand, Chism has been there and done that over ten times as a pro and many more times as an amateur, so he knows what to expect. It will be interesting to see how Davis makes the transition. We're very excited that Davis is getting introduced to the MMA world through our show.”
