One Punch KO Earns Rashad Evans Crack At Title

After dispatching of “The Iceman” Chuck Liddell with a devastating one punch knockout at UFC 88: Breakthrough in Atlanta on Saturday Night, “Sugar” Rashad Evans remained undefeated and has earned a chance to fight Forrest Griffin for the UFC Light Heavyweight title according to UFC President Dana White,

“Lorenzo (Fertitta), Joe (Silva) and I got together and thought yeah, he deserves the title shot,” White said. “How could you say, 'No, he doesn't deserve the shot' after [the Liddell fight]?”

Liddell had been promised a shot at the belt that he had once been the keeper of, but Evans changed those plans quickly in the second round with a huge over hand right than crippled Liddell and sent him to the mat and knocked him unconsicious.

No time frame was given for the showdown between The Ultimate Fighter 1 and 2 winners but it is likely they will meet up on December 27th when the UFC holds their year end show.

Always humble, Evans gave his thoughts on the title shot at the press conference,

“It's exciting man. I'm still living in the moment right now and haven't put much thought into it right now.” Evans said. “A title fight is just another fight.”
