Holding on to the kimura after Jake Shields had tapped out is not the only thing that Rousimar Palhares is in hot water for after their weekend bout at WSOF 22 from Las Vegas.
A photo has surfaced showing the damage to Jake Shields’ eyes after being gouged by Palhares several times during their fight this past Saturday night.
Shields told MMA Fighting:
“Over and over, he kept catching his thumb and digging it in both of my eyes. Over and over … I kept telling Mazzagatti, ‘hey, look, the eye gouges.’ He wasn’t saying anything about it. It wasn’t once or twice. It was at least eight times. In over 40 fights, not one time has anyone ever done that to me. Those weren’t, like, semi-eyepokes. Those were blatant dig in and try to gouge.”
As a result of holding onto the kimura too long, as well as the eye gouges, Palhares ended up being stripped of his WSOF Welterweight title and suspended indefinitely by the promotion.
Additionally, several top fighters are rallying on social media in an attempt to get Palhares banned for life from MMA competition.
