The MMA Update for Tuesday June 12th, 2007 (Fight Night Edition)
Written by Chris Howie

Intro

Fight Night is upon us. Tonight live on Spike TV starting at 9:00PM ET the UFC hits from Hollywood, FL. Today in the update I'll go over the three main card fights that are definitely going to be shown tonight as well as all the latest news. Lets get going.

Liddell's Manager Responds To Rehab Comments From Vernon White

Chuck Liddell's manager, Jervis Cole, took a page out of his clients book and KO'd the comments made by Vernon White about Chuck being in rehab before the Liddell fight. Cole stated that “It was not true” and that “No other comment was needed”. I personally didn't take much out of White's comments about Liddell and assumed it would only be a matter of time before it was put to rest from somebody in the Liddell camp.

Pride Tried Bribing Rampage?

In an interview with MMA Today, Quinton Jackson states that Pride officials tried bribing him into losing his first fight in Pride to Sakuraba. They told him if he wins he will get $10,000 but if he loses they will give him $12,000. One can only assume that this is truthful considering a lot of the shoddy buisness that Pride was known for doing. It's things like bribing fighters that puts a black mark on the legacy that was once a great organization. Sad, but apparently true.

Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs. Frank Mir In Submission Grappling Match On June 22nd

The Tuffnuff Promotion will be putting this show on in Vegas June 22nd. The majority of the card is MMA but Mir and Sobral will face off in a Submission grappling Super Fight. The rest of the card is as follows:

Tuff-N-Uff Heavyweight Title
Brad Imes vs Vince Lucero – MMA

Submission Grappling Super Fight
Renato “Babalu” Sobral vs Frank Mir

Reynaldo Duarte vs Bobby Sanchez – MMA
Carlos Fletes vs Brian Smith – MMA

Fight Night Live Breakdown

Jordan Radev vs. Drew McFedries: Radev is a new comer to the UFC making his debut. He holds a strong wrestling background as he was a member of the Bulgarian National Wrestling Team and Bulgarian Olympic Team. McFedries, the Miletich fighter out of Iowa is coming off a Submission loss to Martin Kampman at UFC 68. He is a good striker and holds a decent ground game. Radev is going to be looking to make a name for himself with his first fight in the UFC and McFedries will be looking to get back on the winning track. This should be a decent fight but if it goes to the ground with Radev controlling, look for it to be a tad on the boring side.

Prediction: McFedries via TKO, Rd. 2

Roan Carneiro vs. Jon Fitch: Fitch is on a five-fight win streak in the UFC and is always ranked in the top 10 in MMA rankings. Carneiro is coming off a win in his UFC debut at the last Fight Night against UFC veteran Rich Clementi. Fitch is full of talent and is very well rounded. Roan is a BJJ fighter with great credentials under his belt. This fight will probably end up on the mat but look for it to be very entertaining with both fighters working hard to a decision.

Prediction: Jon Fitch via Unanimous Decision

Main Event – Spencer Fisher VS Sam Stout: This is a rematch from UFC 58. Their first fight was very entertaining and could be argued that it could have went to either fighter. Stout won the first fight by split decision. Last time Fisher took the fight on short notice so he didn't get to train to his fullest. Both fighters are very talented lightweights and will be looking to win in impression fashion to further themselves along in the lightweight division. Fisher is a strong puncher and trains with MFS so is definitely well rounded and ready for anything. Stout trains with Shawn Tompkins and doesn't have the nickname “Hands of Stone” for nothing. This is definitely going to be an exciting back and forth fight.

Prediction: Sam Stout via Unanimous Decision
