Tim Persey Statement On Failed K-1/EXC Drug Test

Benson Kane sent along the following:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

June 15-Irvine CA — On Tuesday, June 12 Tim Persey requested a copy of the toxicology report that was used by the California State Athletic Commission that led to the six month suspension of Mr. Persey. Tim Persey strongly admits that he is not a methamphetamine user and the methamphetamine found in his system was not from recreational usage. “I’m not a meth user or drug addict. I deeply regret any damages that I have caused my fans, my teammates, my coach, ProElite, Elite XC and Showtime. I understand it is my responsibility to know what the CSAC has on their list of banned substances and what I am putting into my system whether it’s an over the counter medication or a prescription drug. I had been feeling ill and had a slight shoulder injury and had not been preparing for a fight. I took the fight in short notice and stupidly, not addressed the medications I had taken. I was excited about getting the opportunity to fight. I would advise all of you fighters out there who have not looked at the CSAC banned drug list I suggest you do, I was extremely surprised! There must be a dozen over-the-counter medications that I have in my bathroom that I have now thrown out.

Yesterday Tim met privately with his coach and management, all of which are profoundly upset at Tim Persey’s situation all are in agreement and accept the discipline that has been imposed by the CSAC. Tim also accepts the suspension and has personally decided not to appeal, but would rather move in a more positive and intelligent direction. “I’m committed to turning my life around and being a positive role model in the MMA community and once again fight in the sport that is my life, love and passion. I took my last fight on short notice and as a result I did not represent my true fighting abilities. I know now that this was the real mistake because I have damaged my reputation. I believe in my heart that this mistake and misjudgment will make me a better person and fighter, even though it is a tough lesson. When I take the time to prepare for a fight like I did when I fought on February 10th, the MMA world had an opportunity to see what Big Perm is made of. I’m extremely sad about the six months until I can work again but that will give me some time to rehabilitate some injury’s, train and think about this experience. So come December, if someone out there wants to see an exciting new and improve Tim Persey then let’s go for it, I’ll be ready!”
