While we now know that UFC Hall Of Famer Tito Ortiz will be challenging Liam McGeary for the Bellator Light Heavyweight Championship at the “Dynamite” event on September 19th, as it turns out, a much bigger “super fight” was originally proposed — and ultimately turned down — by “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy.”
Ortiz, who has been undefeated in his run in the Bellator MMA promotion thus far, was apparently offered a rematch 16 years in the making against fellow MMA legend Frank Shamrock, however he opted to go for a shot at Bellator gold instead.
Instead, Ortiz (18-11) will battle the undefeated McGeary (10-0) in the main event of the show for the Bellator 205-pound title.
Also scheduled for the “Bellator MMA: Dynamite!!!” event, which takes place on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California, is a four-man Light Heavyweight tournament that will feature Phil Davis, Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal, Emanuel Newton and Linton Vassell.
The show will also feature GLORY Kickboxing bouts with Paul Daley, Joe Schilling and other yet-to-be-named participants.
