UFC 106 Results: George Sotiropoulos Vs. Jason Dent

JASON DENT VS. GEORGE SOTIROPOULOS

Round 1 – After a touch of gloves, Sotiropoulos opens with a couple quick jabs. Dent then checks a head kick and pushes forward until backed up by a few shots from his opponent. The fighters are just testing their range early on. Sotiropoulos rushes in to try to clinch but eats a couple punches and is forced to back out. Nice uppercut from Dent before Sotiropoulos throws a head kick that Dent brushes off. Dent lands a nice jab, but Sotiropoulos answers with a right to the body. The fighters trade straight punches. A nice pace keeps the crowd entertained. Sotiropoulos with a nice right to the belly. Sotiropoulos finally shoots and takes down Dent, postures up to land a punch and then hopes into half guard. Sotiropoulos delivers some punches and moves into side control. He patiently works for position and tries to take Dent's back during an escape attempt. Sotiropoulos wraps him up and pins him back to the mat, takes mount, takes his opponent's back, and then reclaims mount when Dent rolls over. Sotiropoulos unloads some vicious shots with forearms and elbows that causes the referee to issue a warning for Dent to fight back. With 10 seconds to go, Dent throws some punches from his back but eats a barrage just as the round ends. Dent survived, but Sotiropoulos takes the round easily, 10-9.

Round 2 – Dent lands an inside leg kick to one of Sotiropoulos' braced knees. Sotiropoulos, though, stalks as Dent circles the cage. Dent lands a nice overhand right that draws ooohs from the crowd. The fighters again trade jabs in the center of the cage, and Dent no longer seems worried about a takedown. However, Sotiropoulos catches a kick and sweeps Dent's other leg out form under him to put him on his back. Sotiropoulos gets half guard and scrambles for side mount. Dent tries to escape and gives up his back in the process. Sotiropoulos clings to him and tries to lock in his hooks, but Dent rolls free and pulls his opponent back into half guard. Sotiropoulos, though, moves into halg guard and then the north-south position. Sotiropoulos can do little but tea bag his opponent, and the fight goes back to their feet. Sotiropoulos, though, quickly takes it back to the mat, secures mount, and rains down shots. Dent pulls him close to avoid damage, but Sotiropoulos postures up again and then grabs an arm looking for the armbar. He rolls Dent over and tries to torque the hold, but Dent hangs strong. Sotiropoulos, though, locks in his legs and finally forces the tapout. Great fight overall and good win for Sotiropoulos that earns nice applause from the half-full crowd. George Sotiropoulos def.
