KENNY FLORIAN vs. DIN THOMAS
“KenFlo” Replaces Spencer Fisher for UFC Main Event
Las Vegas, NV (USA) — The pride of Boston, Kenny “Ken Flo” Florian will step up to battle fellow The Ultimate Fighter alumnus Din Thomas in what promises to be an explosive lightweight matchup headliner for UFC Fight Night. Spike TV will telecast the two-hour fight card Wednesday, September 19 at 9:00pm ET live from The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. Doors will open at 2:45pm PT and the first bout will begin at 3:45pm PT.
Tickets for UFC Fight Night are on sale now and are priced at $100, $200 and $350, plus any additional box office or service fees. To purchase tickets, visit any Ticketmaster location, call 702-474-4000, or visit www.ticketmaster.com.
Florian is replacing Spencer Fisher, who was forced to bow out due to illness, in the UFC Fight Night main event. With both Florian and Thomas coming off impressive wins, they’ll look to maintain their momentum as they ascend the lightweight ranks in the hopes of a title shot.
Boston native Kenny Florian (8-3) made his UFC debut on Season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter, making it to the finals before losing to Diego Sanchez. The sting of defeat provided Florian with ample motivation to take his training to another level, and the results in the Octagon speak for themselves.
Florian has only dropped one fight since engaging in a five-round war with Sean Sherk for the then vacant UFC lightweight title at UFC 64 in October of 2006. Rebounding with impressive victories over Dokonjonosuke Mishima and Alvin Robinson since then, Florian is hoping to continue his string of dominance in the division and get another shot at the lightweight championship.
Standing in Florian’s way is Din Thomas (23-7), a 30 year old Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt who may have gained national recognition on Season 4 of The Ultimate Fighter last year, but was already well-known to mixed martial arts fans with a resume that includes an impressive win over current welterweight champ Matt Serra at UFC 41 in 2003. Thomas, an American Top Team product training out of Port St. Lucie, Fla., enters his bout with Florian coming off victories over Rich Clementi, Clay Guida, and Jeremy Stephens. A fourth straight win over a fighter with Florian’s pedigree would catapult Thomas further up the ranks in the 155 lb. division.
The undercard will also feature other prominent The Ultimate Fighter alumni in action, including Mike Swick (Season 1), Chris “The Crippler” Leben (Season 1), Nate Diaz (Season 5), Gray Maynard (Season 5), Cole Miller (Season 5), Pete “Drago” Sell (Season 4), and Nate Quarry (Season 1).
Spike TV is available in 91.6 million homes and is a division of MTV Networks. A unit of Viacom (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), MTV Networks is one of the world’s leading creators of programming and content across all media platforms.
