Fabricio Werdum is preparing for his fight against Cain Velasquez at UFC 196, and recently spoke to Sherdog to promote the bout. Werdum, who currently has an MMA record of 20-5-1, spoke on rumors of him retiring by saying he’s going to make history in this new phase of his career.
Here’s what Werdum had to say:
“Now that I’m getting rich, why would I retire? No way! I want to make history” Werdum told Sherdog.com. “I want to be considered the best heavyweight fighter in history by the fans. I started beating Fedor Emelianenko, Mark Hunt, Velasquez – a long list. I was always considered the underdog. So, now I think I’m starting a new phase in my career where I’m not the underdog anymore.” Werdum said
Werdum signed an eight-fight, seven-figure deal with the UFC this month.
UFC 196 takes place on February 6th in Las Vegas and is headlined by Fabricio Werdum vs. Cain Velasquez in a rematch from their UFC 188 fight, where Werdum won via submission in the third round. Live round-by-round results from the event start at 10 PM ET on MMANews.com.
