Alexander Gustafsson, Phil Davis Question Legitimacy Of Anderson Silva Training Video

After a unique video surfaced online on Tuesday that showed Anderson Silva knock out one of his training partners, several of Silva’s peers in the UFC have commented on the clip, questioning its’ legitimacy.

The video, which features Silva knocking out training partner Douglas Moura with a flying knee and then continuing to pummel him while he’s on the ground, has UFC Light Heavyweight contenders Alexander Gustafsson and Phil Davis calling “B.S.”

“He didn’t look knocked out to me,” said Davis. “He looks maybe hurt. People when they get knocked out look stiff and he doesn’t look stiff anywhere.”

Gustafsson quipped that maybe the whole thing was a publicity stunt done simply for the cameras, and that Moura, a member of Team Nogueira, where Silva trains, took a “dive.”

“[Silva] probably gave him a hundred bucks after practice,” said Gustafsson.

Eric Del Fierro, head coach of Alliance MMA, where Davis and Gustafsson train, was more disturbed by the footage than curious as to whether or not it was the real deal.

“I would have quit that gym right then and there,” said Del Fierro.

Davis, who called out Silva after his victory over Glover Teixeira at UFC 179 back in October, shared Del Fierro’s concerns, noting that if the video is legitimate, it paints Silva and the entire Team Nogueira gym in a bad light.

“If he is knocked out, why is he still hitting him?” said Davis. “That’s what you do to a training partner? You don’t just knock him out like [Dan] Hendo [Henderson] and follow up on him like [Michael] Bisping. It’s your training partner. What’s wrong with you?”

Davis makes his Octagon return against Ryan Bader at the upcoming UFC On FOX 14 event on January 24th in Stockholm, Sweden. Gustafsson headlines the same card, taking on fellow top-ranked UFC Light Heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson in the main event.

Meanwhile, Silva makes his long-awaited return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 183 on January 31st at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he takes on the returning Nick Diaz.
