Former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva gave fight fans quite the scare at UFC 237 this past weekend (Sat. May 11, 2019). Silva ate a leg kick from opponent Jarred Cannonier, after which “The Spider” fell to the canvas in pain. It was eerily reminiscent of Silva’s devastating leg injury against Chris Weidman back in 2013.
Silva was helped out of the Octagon and subsequently received medical treatment. In an update from MMA Fighting, Silva, thankfully, has avoided any serious injury. An MRI revealed that Silva’s ligaments remain intact, and he will only require physical therapy before returning to training.
With the TKO defeat to Cannonier, Silva has now suffered six losses in his last eight fights. One of those fights was ruled a No Contest, and his only victory (controversially) came against Derek Brunson in February of 2017. At 44-years-old, it will be interesting to see how much longer Silva decides to fight before finally hanging his gloves up for good.
What did you make of Silva’s injury upon seeing it live at UFC 237?
