John “Doomsday” Howard is the latest fighter to call out Phil Brooks, best known as former WWE star CM Punk. Howard was recently interviewed by SI.com and explained why he wants to face the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion in the octagon. Here’s what he had to say:
“Phil Brooks got a pass to the UFC because of his notoriety,” said Howard. “Maybe he is a legit caliber UFC fighter, but I want to be the guy he fights to prove he belongs in the UFC. I’m smaller than him. He’s a middleweight and I’m a welterweight, but I’ll come up in weight. If he whips my butt, I’ll eat my words–but let’s see him prove it against me.”
Howard joins a list of people who’ve called out CM Punk including Cathal Pendred, former NFL linebacker Shawne Merriman, a FOX Sports writer, and the green Power Ranger.
CM Punk is expected to make his UFC debut sometime in 2016, against an opponent yet to be determined. Howard fights Tim Means at UFC Fight Night 80 on Thursday night.
