Anthony Pettis: Mind Games Were Key To McGregor’s Victory Over Aldo

Former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis believes Conor McGregor successfully got inside Jose Aldo’s head before their UFC 194 fight. Pettis appeared on The MMA Hour recently and was shocked that someone was able to finish Jose Aldo in 13 seconds.

“Finishing Aldo in 13 seconds, it’s an amazing thing. So, respect to Conor for backing up his words,” Pettis said. “It was crazy to see Aldo get dethroned that way. I thought it was going to be a war. I thought it was going to be more of a fight, but Conor caught him.”

Pettis believes one of the keys to McGregor’s victory was the mind games his played with Aldo, making Aldo more aggressive early on than usual.

“I think Conor got in his head. Aldo’s not known for coming out there trying to throw bombs the way he did. Conor got in his head. He wanted to put his hands on him, and he got to hit him, but one guy went down, and one guy didn’t.”
