Former UFC Heavyweight Champion and current co-host of AXS TV’s “Inside MMA,” Bas Rutten, recently took the time to break down what he feels is missing from former fighter-turned-pro wrestler Brock Lesnar’s overall MMA game.
“Brock is a very strong individual,” said Rutten of the former UFC Heavyweight Champion currently employed by pro wrestling company WWE. “But if I would’ve been his coach, I would’ve sent him to Holland all the way in the beginning of his career.”
Rutten, a former UFC Heavyweight Champion himself who is best known to modern MMA fans as the former voice of the PRIDE Fighting Championships American broadcasts, as well as for his gig as co-host of the weekly “Inside MMA” show on AXS TV (and best known to yours truly as my former weekly co-host for the MMA hour of my old show, “WZR Radio“), “El Guapo” went on to explain why Lesnar desperately needed to focus specifically on the striking aspect of his overall MMA skill set.
“I would’ve said, ‘You know how to wrestle. Go train with the best Tai boxers in the planet.’ That’s what he needs to do; his weakness is striking,” said Rutten, who concluded by pointing out the obvious, “Nowadays, you can’t do MMA with one style anymore.”
