Chris Weidman Eyeing Middleweight & Light Heavyweight Title Runs

Chris Weidman has some pretty big aspirations for the rest of his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. “The All American” once reigned as the undefeated champion of the UFC’s middleweight division. He won the crown back in 2013 with a stunning knockout over Anderson Silva.

After three successful title defenses, Weidman was handed the first loss of his career. Luke Rockhold finished Weidman in the fourth round of their 2015 UFC 194 meeting. That was the beginning of a three-fight losing skid for Weidman. However, in July of last year, Weidman got back in the win column. He submitted Kelvin Gastelum in Uniondale, New York for his first win in two years.

Now, he’ll make his return to the Octagon this weekend (Sat. November 3, 2018) at UFC 230 against Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. Initially, Weidman was supposed to rematch Rockhold at the event. Unfortunately, Rockhold sustained an injury that forced him off the card. Now, he’ll take on the Brazilian jiu-jitsu ace instead. Speaking to UFC.com recently, Weidman previewed his upcoming fight with Souza.

During the conversation, Weidman detailed some interesting aspirations he has planned moving forward. He’d like to reclaim the UFC middleweight title, defend it a few times, and move up to win the light heavyweight championship as well:

“My goal right now is to win the middleweight championship back, defend that a few times and then head up to 205 and win some belts up there as well,” Weidman said.

Do you think Weidman will win both the middleweight and light heavyweight championships?
