While there is still confusion regarding whether or not Frankie Edgar will get the next shot at UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor, it didn’t stop “The Notorious” one from explaining why fighting for the 145-pound title might not be “The Answer” for Edgar at the moment.
“I like Frankie,” McGregor said during his interview on the UFC 194 post-show on FS1. “I always did. He fights with his heart. He had a good run in the lightweight division. Again, he wouldn’t take my shots. It would not be a good night for him. But I do respect him and I respect that win.”
Regarding Edgar’s win over Chad Mendes via first round knockout at the TUF 22 Finale less than 24 hours after his own 13-second knockout of Jose Aldo at UFC 194, McGregor offered the following comment.
“Personally, I think Chad should have taken a rest,” McGregor said. “You can’t take those shots. It was too quick to come back. But Frankie got in there, done his job, caught him with the shot. Much respect.”
