Despite recent concerns, if the Conor McGregor vs. Jose Aldo title fight goes on as planned at UFC 189 next month, the amount of high-level fighters in the UFC continue to pick “The Notorious” to walk out of Las Vegas on July 11th with the UFC Featherweight Championship.
After the news surfaced last week that UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman is predicting a second round TKO in favor of the rising Irish contender, the list of highly regarded UFC combatants backing “The Notorious” seems to be growing by the day.
The latest fighter to pick McGregor may surprise a lot of fans, as Dustin Poirier, a man who had a bitter rivalry with McGregor just six months ago prior to being TKO’d by “The Notorious” in just one minute and 46 seconds at UFC 178 in September of 2014, ending his three fight winning streak inside the Octagon, noted on social media that he is picking the Irish contender to dethrone the Brazilian 145-pound champion.
When a fan asked Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier if he felt McGregor or Aldo would win their UFC Featherweight Championship bout in July, Poirier simply replied, “I think McGregor.”
Of course, this could end up being an irrelevant point if the fight doesn’t come to fruition, as recent rumors suggest champion Aldo fractured several ribs, an injury that at the least, could postpone the fight from its’ originally scheduled July 11th date.
For now, Aldo is still scheduled to defend his UFC Featherweight Championship against McGregor as planned, as the two are set to collide in the year’s most anticipated fight at UFC 189 on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
