Cormier Wins Fight, Silva Wins Over Fans In Short-Notice UFC 200 Bout

On Saturday night, Daniel Cormier got his hand raised in his extremely short-notice fight against MMA legend Anderson Silva at the landmark UFC 200 pay-per-view event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To his credit, while “The Spider” technically lost on paper yet again, he clearly won over the fans inside the brand new T-Mobile Arena, where the historic event was held.

Cormier, who prepared for a five round battle against the only man to ever defeat him in the sport, Jon Jones, before Jones was pulled from the event after being flagged by USADA for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation, rode out Silva for much of the fight, picking up a clean sweep of 30-27 from the three judges who officially scored the bout.

The same fight style that got him the victory, however, caused him the appreciation of the fans in attendance, as they booed anytime Cormier clinched or took Silva down after it became clear that he wasn’t able to do much other than control and maintain top position. It got to the point where any offense of any kind from Silva would get wild cheers from the fans, and anytime Cormier got a hold of Silva, they booed with passion.
