Cyborg Urges UFC To Make Superfight With Ronda Rousey On ESPN SportsCenter

Invicta FC Featherweight Champion Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino appeared on ESPN SportsCenter on Wednesday morning and spoke about the highly-anticipated superfight between herself and UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Ronda Rousey. Unfortunately, nothing new came from the appearance.

Cyborg stated that the fight “has to happen,” and urged UFC to “do it for all the fans” even if they feel she doesn’t “deserve” the fight.

Obviously that is a bizarre statement, considering the fact that both Rousey and UFC President Dana White have made it clear that they are ready to make the fight the moment Cyborg proves she can fight at 135 pounds, as that is the weight class where Rousey is champion.

Following her appearance on ESPN SportsCenter on Wednesday, it’s clear that Cyborg isn’t budging when it comes to using the media to try and put pressure on Rousey and UFC to make the fight north of 135 pounds, despite their claims that it’s simply not an option.

Cyborg elaborated during her appearance, pointing out that it’s a tradition for a champion to move up in weight when she cleans out her weight class, something Justino feels Rousey has already done.

“Ronda already cleaned out her division,” Justino said. “When a champ cleans out the division, everybody sees this, the champ goes up [to the next weight class], and I’m the champion at 145 [pounds] and I can drop to 140 to fight her.”

Justino continued, “The right way is to have her fight at 145, because all the champions do this when you clear out a division. I can drop to make 140 happen, but I think if the UFC wants to make that fight, they have the power to do this.”

As far as Rousey speaking out in the media on a consistent basis about her belief that Cyborg takes performance-enhancing drugs, Cyborg was quick to point out that she has not failed a drug test since being popped for steroids back in 2011.

“She can not say anything about my doping. It was 2011. I have passed six tests and the same exams she’s doing, because we’re in the same organization now [Zuffa]. I don’t think it’s right she can say something she can not prove.”
