After telling UFC.com that Cain Velasquez could potentially be stripped of the UFC Heavyweight Championship if he remains on the sidelines for too long, UFC President Dana White clarified his comments in an interview with FOX Sports.
“That is so not what I said,” White stated. “I’ve literally answered that question all night tonight.”
White continued, “What I said was if we end up in a situation where Cain got injured again, severely injured – if he blew his shoulder out again, if he had to have knee surgery that would keep him out six to a year – then [Fabricio] Werdum would become champion.”
Werdum became interim UFC Heavyweight Champion with a second-round TKO of Mark Hunt in the main event of UFC 180 on Saturday night.
