Dana White: Conor McGregor Will Have To Relinquish A Title If He Wins At UFC 205

Apparently Conor McGregor won’t be a reigning, active two-division champion in the UFC even if he beats Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November.

UFC President Dana White appeared on ESPN SportsCenter on Tuesday and stated that if McGregor defeats Alvarez for the UFC Lightweight Championship at the promotion’s debut event in New York, he will have to relinquish one of his titles before moving forward.

As White explained, he’s merely giving “The Notorious” one a chance to back up his claim that he will be the first-ever two-division champion in UFC history.

“He wants to try to gain both belts and he will give up one of the titles after that fight in New York,” White said during his ESPN appearance on Tuesday.

The UFC President continued, “He’s got some stuff going on right now, some personal stuff that I’m sure he’ll announce when he’s ready,” White said. “But this fight made sense.”

UFC 205: Alvarez vs. McGregor takes place on Saturday, November 12th at the world-famous Madison Square Garden in New York City. Join us here at MMANews.com on 11/12 for live coverage of the UFC 205 pay-per-view.
