Dana White Says Gastelum, Lineker Must Move Up In Weight If They Want To Fight In UFC

After Kelvin Gastelum and John Lineker missed weight by a considerable amount for their upcoming UFC 183 pay-per-view fights, UFC President Dana White made the announcement that both fighters will be forced to move up one weight class each if they want to continue fighting in the UFC.

Lineker, who has now missed weight in four of his eight UFC bouts, will be forced to move from the UFC Flyweight division (125-pounds), where he is currently ranked number six in the world, to the UFC Bantamweight division (135-pounds).

“Lineker will never fight at Flyweight again,” said White to Brazilian MMA media outlet Combate after Friday’s UFC 183 weigh-ins. “He will have to move up to Bantamweight.”

White continued, “Same thing with Kelvin Gastelum. This was the last time he will fight at Welterweight. He has weight issues,” said White. “[He] had to go to the hospital and was cleared by the doctors to come to the weigh-ins. He came here ten pounds over. He will have to move up to middleweight.”

Friday marked the third time out of five fights in the UFC that Gastelum missed weight. Twice he failed to make weight altogether, while one of the three times he ended up successfully making weight in his second attempt.

As a result of missing weight for his UFC Flyweight match against Ian McCall at UFC 183, Lineker must forefit 30-percent of his purse to his opponent, however the fight will go on as scheduled. Gastelum will also forefit 30-percent of his purse to his opponent at UFC 183, Tyron Woodley, and their fight will go on as scheduled as well.
