At the UFC-Reebok Fighter Kit launch on Tuesday, Dana White addressed the Yoel Romero “Jesus comment” controversy, and as always, the UFC President did not disappoint.
“No, it wasn’t controversial at all,” said White about the comments Romero made while talking to Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com. “But the reality is this: [Romero] just won the biggest fight of his career, America doesn’t want to hear your thoughts on Jesus.”
White continued, “Keep that stuff at home. Religion, politics, all of that stuff. When you’re out there fighting and you’re being interviewed, they wanna hear about the fight.”
From there, the UFC boss made it clear that he has no problems with his fighters loving Jesus, as long as they do so privately.
“It’s awesome that you love Jesus. Love Jesus all you want, you just don’t have to do it publicly.”
Regarding the confusion over Romero’s actual comments, White believes the UFC Middleweight contender did not mean what some people thought.
“I know he didn’t say that. I know he didn’t say it. Everybody knows he didn’t say that.”
White concluded, “People react to everything, but if you would just keep that stuff …you know, talk about your fight.”
