Disney CEO Says Firing Of Gina Carano Unrelated To Political Affiliations

After a broad spectrum of emotions for all parties involved, the firing of Gina Carano reverberated across the world of Hollywood, and the CEO of Disney claims the action has nothing to do with political motivations.

As one of the first pioneers of women’s mixed martial arts, Carano’s name will forever be etched in stone. In a trip down memory lane, the fighter-turned actress was a participant in the first-ever women’s Strikeforce fight, despite having the misfortune of facing Cris Cyborg. While she lost the fight by TKO, Gina Carano parlayed her fighting experience into the acting world and found out that she was quite successful at it.

Gina Carano has always been an outspoken person, often posting what she refers to as “think pieces” on her social media. However, in some of her most recent posts, Disney CEO Bob Chapak took issue with her conduct. In particular, some of her posts which some interpreted as anti-Semitic caused a stir. Chapak finally responded to the firing of Gina Carano at his latest shareholder’s meeting and underlined that political affiliations were not involved in decision-making process.

“I don’t really see Disney as characterizing itself as left-leaning or right-leaning, yet as standing for values — values that are universal,” Chapek said. “Values of respect, values of decency, values of integrity and values of inclusion.”

Overall the Disney CEO seems to believe that the personal conduct of the former MMA fighter Carano was not in line with the values of the company.

“And we seek to have not only, how we operate but the content that we make reflective of the rich diversity of the world that we live in,” Chapek added

Since the incident took place, the firing of Gina Carano from the blockbuster Star Wars series, The Mandalorian has dominated the headlines. In the aftermath, the Carano partnered up with conservative talk show host Ben Shapiro. With the intention of spearheading a motion picture together, perhaps we will see Gina Carano back on the big screen sooner than later.
