During a recent interview with Esquire, Conor McGregor made a bold claim directed towards boxing mega-star Floyd Mayweather.
“If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather — pound-for-pound boxing’s best — if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds,” McGregor said with complete confidence.
Never one shy to back down in a war of words, “Money” Mayweather has fired back at the rising Irish MMA star.
When TMZ Sports informed Mayweather of McGregor’s comments, he was quick to brush him off as irrelevant.
“[McGregor] is a joke,” said Mayweather. “I don’t take that dude seriously,” he continued.”
Mayweather concluded, “He’s just trying to get himself some publicity.”
Mayweather returns to the squared-circle for what will be the biggest boxing fight of the year, as he finally meets Manny Pacquiao on May 2, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
McGregor, on the other hand, will also be involved in one of the biggest fights of this year, as he returns to the Octagon to challenge Jose Aldo for the UFC Featherweight Championship in the main event of UFC 189, which takes place on July 11, 2015, also in Las Vegas, Nevada.
