Georges St-Pierre Addresses UFC Return Rumors On Chael Sonnen’s Podcast

During the latest edition of Chael Sonnen’s “You’re Welcome” podcast, former UFC Welterweight king Georges St-Pierre addressed the recent rumors regarding his return to the UFC.

St-Pierre was asked by Sonnen outright about the rumors that he’s back in the gym training for a return, however claimed that might not necessarily be the case.

“I’m going to tell you the truth …I always train,” said St-Pierre. “I started training when I was seven years old. I’ve never stopped. Training is part of my life, so it doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t mean I’m going to be back or not.”

GSP continued, “Whether I retire or not or come back or not, I’m always going to be training. I like to feel in shape and feel good in my own skin. That’s why I’m training.”

St-Pierre also spoke to Sonnen about how hee was starting to notice that while he was hungry, the latest generation of top challengers he’s been facing possibly want it more.

“I didn’t feel that hunger, that will to fight,” St-Pierre said. “When I fought Johny Hendricks, I was like: ‘If you put happiness on a scale, who would be more happy to win the title? Me to win another title, or would it be Johny Hendricks to win the title for the first time?’ I realized the guys who were coming, the new guys, they would be way more happy than me to win a title.”

“When you lost the motivation, you cannot reinvent yourself, and you stay the same Georges St-Pierre you are, and for me, it was time for me [to walk away],” St-Pierre said. “After the [Hendricks] fight I was like, ‘Man, you need to take time off to see where I’m going. I have a lack of motivation and I don’t want to wait until it’s too late.’”

St-Pierre concluded, “If you lose a race in another sport, it’s not bad. But if you lose a fight in mixed martial arts, you get damage. It’s very bad. I wanted to take some time off to see where I’m going. If I ever come back, it’s going to be important for me to reinvent myself and become a much better version than I was.”
