After a fiery response, it’s evident that Gilbert Burns isn’t finished with Nate Diaz just yet.
Following his impressive win over Stephen Thompson at UFC 264, Gilbert Burns has been making his way through some top call-outs. The #2-ranked welterweight is perhaps just one big win away from another title shot, and he has a few names on his list who might get him there. Among these names were Leon Edwards, Jorge Masvidal, and Nate Diaz. The only one to answer, and answer in a big way, was Diaz.
Diaz responded to Burns’s call out on Twitter with a harsh shutdown. However, never being one to be out completely, Burns has retaliated.
“That’s what I thought @NateDiaz209 you don’t want no smoke!” Burns wrote. “So don’t say my name anymore bitch ass fake gangster! So many losses you have already! And your teammates that I already beat knows what I would do to you! Keep playing smart and save.”
The top on the welterweight division is filled with fighters who think they deserve the next shot at champion Kamaru Usman. Masvidal seems to be waiting, and Edwards has made it clear he thinks he deserves the shot. Even Diaz, who lost his last two, might be closer to the title than the rest.
It might take a bit, but one of these men will eventually come around and accept Burns’ challenge when a title fight is made official. Those sitting on the outside will need to stay active in order to not get passed over. When one of those three is ready, Burns will be waiting.
Who do you think should accept Burns’ invitation for a possible title challenger fight?
