Gina Carano vs. Ronda Rousey is in the works – and UFC is targeting for the mega-fight to take place before the year is out. At Friday’s UFC Fight Night 46 media scrum from Dublin, Ireland, UFC President Dana White stated that he’ll be meeting with Gina Carano on Monday and a deal “should be signed by next week.”
If Ronda Rousey is on board, which it appears she is, White said Carano’s first fight will be for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight championship. He added that the fight will take place this year, which means it UFC 181 on December 6th from Las Vegas. White said:
“Ronda’s been very good to us, and if that’s the fight she wants, then I’m going to try to get it done.”
Rousey is expected to make a quick recovery from her recent arthroscopic knee surgery. White called Rousey “the greatest athlete I’ve ever worked with.”
Carano hasn’t fought since her 2009 loss to Cris “Cyborg” Justino in Strikeforce, but White said the former “face of Women’s MMA” has continued to train during her time away from fighting and is itching for a shot at Ronda Rousey.
Dana White joked about the Cyborg vs. Carano fight, noting that Carano had a good effort but Cyborg “was a little jacked up on Mountain Dew.”
Next week, Dana White goes face to face with Carano’s lawyer to hammer out a deal.
“I can’t wait to meet this guy face to face. It’s going to be a typical Monday. Sh—y day.”
