Jessica Eye Pitches Date and Place for Flyweight Title Fight

Jessica Eye is hoping to cash in on her flyweight title shot in the Windy City when the UFC returns to Chicago for UFC 238.

There are currently no fights scheduled for the event, and a flyweight title bout between Eye and reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko would likely land as the card’s co-main event. After Jessica Eye’s last outing at UFC 231, where she defeated Katlyn Chookagian via split decision, Jessica Eye wasted no time in lobbying for a title shot against Shevchenko. And Tuesday afternoon, Jessica Eye decided to continue playing matchmaker by pitching the date and location:

“Soooo @ufc let’s make this happen @BulletValentina ??? let’s throw hands and get bloody in the Midwest …” Eye tweeted.

For Valentina Shevchenko’s part, she has never expressed any preference for her next opponent. After being suspicious of what she considered to be antics from the former flyweight champion Nicco Montano, Shevchenko has vocalized that as a “real” fighter and champion, she will take on all comers. At the moment, Jessica Eye is at the front of that line, being ranked #1 in the world and currently riding a five-fight win streak. Jessica White also got the blessing from Dana White as being the first option for Valentina Shevchenko’s first title defense:

“Off the top of my head, I think we said that we were gonna do a fight with Jessica Eye. I think Eye is next [for Shevchenko],” White revealed at the UFC Brooklyn post fight press conference.

Valentina Shevchenko won the flyweight championship after defeating Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the vacant championship at UFC 231 via unanimous decision. For Eye, this would mark her first title shot in the UFC.

The last UFC event in Chicago was UFC 225, which featured Robert Whittaker vs. Yoel Romero II.

How do you see the seemingly inevitable fight between Valentina Shevchenko vs. Jessica Eye playing out?
